Slipknot with Hatebreed and God Forbid played at the Corel Centre on August 18th, 2004. Unfortunately, I had transportation issues and missed God Forbid completely and walked in the middle of Hatebreed's set.
Hatebreed's fans are known to be wild, and in Ottawa there was no exception. The whole floor of the Corel Centre broke out in a circle pit (looks like a huge whirlpool of a mosh pit). I have never seen something like that. The band sounded great and the crowd definitely sowed their support
The lights turned off and very quietly you hear Circles from the new Vol3 CD, playing on the PA. The volume gradually increases to a very high suitable Slipknot concert. The 9 members of Slipknot hit the stage, and break out with SIC, and very awesome aggressive song, they yell "Here comes the PAIN!" and the crowd just goes crazy. This was the time I start making my way near the stage, and get myself in a prime spot of to the right of the stage, about 10 feet back. Their stage show was great. During IOWA, 2 of the drummers had this marching band type snare drums, facing each other going in sync and marching around the stage. Such a cool effect. Corey Taylor, lead singer, sounded great, between songs would talk to the audience. The highlight of the show, in my opinion was during "Spit it Out. If you have ever seen live footage of this song, you would know what to expect. The song builds up to this part where it picks up real heavy, but instead of going crazy, the song slows down, and Corey says "OK, are you guys ready for part 2, you know what I am talking about, Everyone get the fuck on the floor" Being the friendly Canadians we are, hehe, everyone sits on the Corel Centre floor. Corey says "Holy Fuck, we have been doing this for a longtime, and I never seen a crowd get down that fast, usually takes 2 minutes, you guys dropped in 30 seconds, that is fucking amazing" Then he gets the roadies to come out and get pictures of it. "So, when I say, jump the fuck up, when I say jump the fuck up..." He starts the song building again, up to this part again and says JUMP THE FUCK UP and the whole Corel Centre is bouncing while he is yelling "FUCK ME IM ALL OUT OF ENEMIES! ", it was an amazing effect. When the show was over, I was very disappointed, I didn't want it to end. If anyone is remote fan of Slipknot, I highly suggest checking them out live. They put on a great show.
